Hello,

My name is Vincent Darwinkel. Born in Sint-Michielsgestel and living in Veldhoven The Netherlands. I work as an IT consultant for the company ALTEN.

What keeps me busy

My homelab

A lot of my free time goes into my homelab. Right now that’s a Talos/Kubernetes cluster running on Proxmox (Odroid H4 Ultra, dual NVMe in ZFS), hosting things like Nextcloud, WordPress, and a Minecraft server. Networking is handled by OPNsense with HAProxy, some UniFi gear, and VLANs to keep things tidy.

Audio

I started with audio when I was very young. I remember thinkering around with speakers when I was 12 years old. Mostly by removing the speaker drivers and placing them in new boxes and see what it would do to the sound. As the time progressed I started learning how to simulate speaker designs from sealed, ported and even horn loaded, building crossovers, how amplifiers and DSP processors work, how to improve the designs and woodworking.

My showlaser project

I have been interested in light as I was a kid, from playing with different reflectors on lamps to see how I could make the light more concentrated and shine further to play around with a small BeamZ laser projector.

My passion really kicked of in 2019 when I started developing a showlaser to give lasershows. At the time of writing I am still actively working on the project. This project brought me the following:

  • Learning on how to create Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
  • A better understanding of electronics (DACs, OP amps, low pass filter networks)
  • Learning laser safety
  • Gaining more knowledge on Arduino boards and Teensy board (Teensy 4.0 and 4.1)
  • Learning how to create code that executes non-blocking
  • Optimizing code to perform actions within microseconds of accuracy
